How to treat sudden pain in ankles

- Get enough rest.
Avoid overloading the ankles by moving only as needed. Apart from that, you can also use a cane to help you walk.
- Ice compress.
Place an ice pack on the ankle for 20 minutes at a time. Do this 3-5 times a day to help reduce ankle pain and swelling.
- Wrap your feet with a decker or ankle support.
Wrap the sore ankle using a decker. Don’t wrap it too tightly, as this can numb your ankles or even turn your toes blue.
- Elevating the ankle while sleeping.
If possible, keep your ankles higher than your heart. Place it on a pile of pillows.
You can also take medicine, such as ibuprofen and acetaminophen to relieve pain and swelling. After the pain subsides, try to do ankle exercises by turning them slowly.
