Massage techniques to relieve headaches
Until now there have not been many studies that support the use of reflexology to treat headaches. However, in a study titled Massage Therapy and Frequency of Chronic Tension Headaches published by the National Institutes of Health, scientists have investigated the effects of massage in relieving chronic tension headaches which are carried out two to three times per week for six months.
The study revealed, massage proved effective in reducing the number of headaches in each subject in the first week of treatment. At the end of the treatment period, the average number of headaches felt by study subjects dropped from almost seven headaches per week to only two per week. The average duration of the subject’s headaches also reduced by half during the treatment period, from an average of eight hours to an average of four hours.
